Off the Grid in Hilo

Updated: Mar 14, 2018

This time we decided to stay off the grid and out of the city life. We booked our stay in Mountain View at a eco cabin. The place was solar powered with its own rain filtration system. It slept one king size bed inside the main cabin and one queen and two single beds in the bus.

This was the main gate that leads to the cabin. At first impressions you'd think not to go in there with the "Kapu" sign hanging on the gate. It seemed like the beginning of some horror story about someone's vacation.

At about 437m above sea level the nights were nice and chilly. The good thing was that we brought our Iceland clothes because we knew we were making a trip to Mauna Kea later. The average temperature at night was around 55°F, we lit some firewood to keep us warm.

No one slept in the bus because it was to cold. But we all agreed that it would've been cool to stay in there if it was during the summer time.

Still needs a little more work, but it was coming along.

The little furnace to keep you warm at night.
