Slot Canyons in Arizona

Another item on our bucket list was the Lower Antelope Canyons just outside of Page, Arizona. This amazing spot has been a gathering place for photographers and adventurers for quite some time now. This incredible canyon has been created over millions of years by the forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into patterns, shapes, and beauty. You can only access this place by local Navajo guide.

The tour is about one hour but it definitely feels like time stops as you're walking through the canyon. It's hard to believe from the photos below that during your tour there are probably a hundred other people in the canyon. However, the tour and it's guides are very coordinated and you get good views and time to take photos. When walking through Antelope Canyon it's interesting to see all the different contrasts and textures, almost like walking through different scenes of a movie. I found myself in a 360 experience as pointing your camera in any angle gave you different perspectives of the ever changing scenery.

We split ourselves up into two groups. The second group paid a little bit extra to do a photographer's tour. This group was limited to ten people only and had some requirements in order to go on this tour. You would need to bring a backpack, DSLR camera, and tripod. This tour was a little bit longer than the standard tour. It gave you time to set up your shot and take couple images to get your exposure. The tour guides would walk ahead and stop the general tour from walking into your shot. If you need help in getting the shot right, you could ask them for help. They would help you choose a direction that other photographers in the past have shot from. Also give you suggestions about shutter speed, exposure, and any other questions you might have to get your desired shot.

The way the natural light hits the walls and sends you into another world.
By adjusting your white balance on your camera. You'll get to see some of the most amazing colors of the canyon walls caused by the direction of how the sun's light enters the canyon.

I would definitely make this a high priority on your list of things to do if your passing thru Page, Arizona. The overall cost to experience something naturally made over years of time is worth every bit. You'll find yourself frozen thru the shutter of your camera taking in all the amazement of Lower Antelope Canyon.

A real amazement of a experience. One that everyone should see.
The squad outside the entrance to the canyon.
